Boys basketball: Ottumwa players earn all-conference honors

Feb. 27—OTTUMWA — The future looks bright for the Ottumwa High School boys basketball team.

After producing the program's first winning season in three years, several members of the 2023-24 Bulldog squad earned postseason honors from the Iowa Alliance Conference. Trae Brown was unanimously selected to the Iowa Alliance south division first team after leading the Bulldogs averaging 17.7 points and eight rebounds a game.

Brown was one of six players to earn unanimous first-team all-conference honors. Joining Brown in achieving the honors were Des Moines Hoover sophomore Wor Wor, Des Moines Roosevelt freshman Charlie King, Des Moines Lincoln junior DaMarius Parker and Des Moines North teammates Wisdom Fode and Da'Corian White.

Rahsha Pope, one of two seniors on the Bulldog squad, earned second-team all-conference honors. Pope was second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.5 points a game, while leading Ottumwa at the point on both ends of the court averaging 3.1 assists and 2.6 steals per contest.

Ottumwa sophomore Nehemiah Wolfing along with junior teammates Chase Thompson and Parker Derby earned honorable mention all-conference honors this season. The Bulldogs posted an overall record of 14-8, including a Class 4A home substate postseason win over Iowa City High, while going 6-4 in Iowa Alliance Conference south division play this season.
