Boyertown, Kutztown University grad Jerome Kapp makes St. Louis Battlehawks' 50-man roster

Mar. 24—The St. Louis Battlehawks will head into the inaugural United Football League season with Jerome Kapp on their roster.

The Boyertown and Kutztown University graduate made the Battlehawks' 50-man roster, which was announced Friday following the conclusion of training camp on Thursday.

St. Louis will open the regular season against the Michigan Panthers on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Ford Field. The game will be broadcast on FOX.

"The competition was really amped up this year, which led to us having to make some tough decisions," Battlehawks coach Anthony Becht said in a statement released by the team. "But that was the goal. Our staff worked hard to find players to up that competition level in training camp and we feel confident this group of players moving forward gives us the best opportunity to win."

A standout wide receiver with the Golden Bears from 2019-22, Kapp, a rookie, signed a letter of intent with St. Louis in January.

Kapp was a member of the New York Jets last summer, participating in training camp and the preseason before he was waived on Aug. 29 ahead of the regular season. He played in all four of New York's preseason games in 2023, recording one catch for 6 yards.

The Battlehawks are a member of the United Football League, which is the product of a merger between the most recent versions of the XFL and United States Football League. The new spring football league, which features eight teams, was formally announced on Dec. 31, 2023.
