- Unbeaten super welterweight Jermell Charlo retained his World Boxing Council title with a stunning first round knockout of Erickson Lubin on Saturday. Charlo floored Lubin with a vicious short right hand at 2:41 in the opening round at the Barclays Center Arena in Brooklyn. Charlo, 27, improved to 30-0 with 15 knockouts in the second defence of his super welterweight title. Lubin, 22, suffered his first career loss in 19 fights. Earlier, Jarrett Hurd made his first title defence of his International Boxing Federation junior welterweight belt on the same card. The unbeaten Hurd stopped Austin Trout to improve to 21-0.
