Bowl Projections: Three different potential landing spots for LSU

A new week of college football means a new set of bowl projections. The LSU Tigers were originally projected to have a bowl appearance on New Years Day before the game against UCLA. Does that change following the loss? Let’s start with USA TODAY Sports’ Erick Smith and his projections after a week of college football action.

LSU Tigers are Nashville-bound?

According to Smith, he has the Tigers heading to Nashville to take part in the Music City Bowl game which is set for Dec. 30. This game has conference affiliations with the Big Ten Conference and the SEC.

Michigan State vs LSU

The battle of the States so to speak Louisiana State and Michigan State. The Spartans and Tigers have met once, which took place in the 1995 Independence Bowl. LSU came out on top 45-26 in Shreveport. Could we see this matchup again? Given the level of expectations, playing in this game would be a massive let down but the team has 11 more games to aim a lot higher than the Music City Bowl game.

ESPN Projections land LSU in two different bowl games

With ESPN, Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach each take their shot at the projections following week one in college football. As usual, they aren’t on the same page for projections when it comes to the Bayou Bengals.

LSU returns to Houston, Texas on Jan. 4

We start with Schlabach who has LSU taking on Oklahoma State in the Texas Bowl. These teams played once with LSU winning 13-0, this game took place in Baton Rouge during the 1956 season. It might be an entertaining game facing the Mike Gundy offense.

Two teams meet for the first time ever

Bonagura still believes that the LSU Tigers will head to the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Florida. This matchup would feature the Tigers facing the Michigan Wolverines on Jan. 1. We could finally mark Michigan off the list of teams that LSU has never faced if this were to take place during bowl season.
