Tuesday marked the official announcement that Minor League Baseball would not have a 2020 season, something that had been expected for some time. Despite it not coming as a surprise, it's still a sad reality and the news ensures that hundreds of players will miss out on the opportunity to play baseball this year.
However, the Bowie Baysox still found a way to keep a positive attitude and have a little fun with the 2020 campaign that never was.
Technically, the cancellation of the season means that every team finished 0-0. There are two ways to look at that. The team either didn't play any games and no wins or losses recorded, meaning the season is void. Or, the team technically went undefeated, because they never lost a game.
The Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles is choosing to go with the latter mindset, and are now selling shirts that commemorate their undefeated season.
A homage to shirts that are typically sold when bands go on tour, fans can now rock the 'undefeated tour' piece of clothing that features the entire 2020 schedule that resulted in no losses for the Baysox.
Many have been arguing whether or not a champion of any league in 2020 deserves an asterisk due to the circumstances surrounding the sports, but the Baysox are deciding to lean into it rather than argue. For them, 2020 is about celebrating an undefeated season, no matter how it came to be.
