BoCoPreps 10&10: Week 9

Feb. 12—Each full week of the winter season, BoCoPreps will highlight 10 teams and 10 athletes that had exceptional performances. Readers are encouraged to submit nominations to

Boulder girls' swimming: Sloan Zallen and Hazel Huilman each reached the state podium in two individual events, leading Panthers to a 12th-place finish at the 5A meet.

Broomfield girls' swimming: Ridley Hagerman took silver and bronze in individual events and helped lead relays to third and fifth, helping the Eagles place second at the 4A state meet Thursday. Pine Creek won the team title.

Broomfield wrestling: William Abrams (157s) and Mars Soto (285s) won regional champs as the boys finished runner-up to Pueblo County at 4A Region 4 Saturday. The girls qualified five wrestlers to state from its regional, led by Breezy Johnston's silver in 120s.

Centaurus girls' swimming: Virginia Walsh took bronze in two individual events, helping the Warriors finish fifth at the 4A state meet Thursday. Walsh went 57.25 in the backstroke and 58.13 in the butterfly.

Fairview girls' swimming: The Knights had six top-five finishes at the Class 5A meet Friday, finishing fourth. Amelia Mason finished second in the 100 butterfly (55.15) and third in the 50 freestyle (23.08). Morgan Cady took second in the 5A 500 freestyle (4:53.78) and third in the 200 freestyle (1:52.42).

Holy Family girls' swimming: Lorelai Frauenfelder was runner-up in two events and the Tigers took fourth at the 3A state meet Saturday. In the 50 and 100 freestyles, the sophomore touched in 24.03 and 52.59 seconds.

Girls swimming: Frauenfelder earns silver to lead locals at 3A state meet

Legacy girls' swimming: Isabella Forsman won gold and the Lightning finished seventh at the 5A state meet Friday. They also had two top-six finishes in relays and Emerson Henkel finished eighth in the 200 IM (2:09.51).

Mead wrestling: Behind six individual champs and 11 qualifiers, the boys won 4A Region 3 at Lewis-Palmer High School Saturday. The girls took second at its region at Fort Lupton, qualifying five to this week's state tournament at Ball Arena. Otto Black (138s), Jake Glade (150s), Leister Bowling IV (175s), Dalton Berg (190s), William Eilers (215s), Grant Gordon (285s), and girls' wrestler Sierra Ryan (135s), all won.

Monarch girls' swimming: Eliza Lennox won the 50 and 100 freestyles at the 4A state meet Thursday, leading the Coyotes to a fourth-place finish. Audrey Shambo won the breaststroke.

4A swimming: Monarch goes for gold in three events

Skyline boys' wrestling: The Falcons had two champs at 4A Region 2, with Tobias Pinson (126s) and Rene Perez (285s) both winning their bracket.

10 athletes

Jennifer Altshuler, Holy Family girls' basketball: She scored a career-high 20 points in a win over Mead Friday night, going 6 of 12 from the field. The Tigers are tied with Mead atop the NCAC heading into the final week of the regular season.

Cole Corner, Longmont boys' basketball: He scored 23 and 19 in wins last week for the Trojans, who have won five of their last six games. Corner returned late last month after missing more than half the season with an injury.

Joey Delescinskis, Legacy boys' basketball: He's averaging 18.2 PPG over his last six games, shooting 50% or better from the field in each. The Lightning have won 11 straight and are tied with Monarch atop the 6A Front Range League standings heading into the final week of the regular season.

Elizabeth Fay, Niwot girls' swimming: She won the diving event at the 4A state meeting, scoring 538.30 points, the third-most in 4A meet history.

Girls swimming: Izzy Fay, Leslie Broz reflect on podium finishes at Class 4A state diving

Isabella Forsman, Legacy girls' swimming: The senior and University of Buffalo commit won the 5A 100-yard butterfly (54.81), narrowly beating Fairview's Amelia Mason. She took second in the 200 individual medley (2:03.08).

Quinn Funk, Legacy boys' wrestling: The defending champ remained undefeated on the season, winning 215s at 5A Region 3 Saturday. Teammate Matthew Clifton (126s) also won.

Wrestling: Legacy crowns two regional champions

Jaden Gardner, Lyons boys' wrestling: He won the 2A Region 1 crown at 165s. He pinned all three of his opponents in the first period.

Eliza Lennox, Monarch girls' swimming: She won two individual titles — 50 freestyle (23.41) and 100 freestyle (51.16) — at the 4A state meet Thursday.

Audrey Shambo, Monarch girls' swimming: She won the 4A 100 breaststroke in 1:04.34.

Xavier Valentin-Bradford, Centaurus boys' wrestling: He won the 285-pound bracket at 5A Region 2 Saturday. He's among the favorites to win state gold this weekend.
