Bob Myers explains Warriors' 2023 NBA trade deadline approach

Warriors general manager Bob Myers knows the Feb. 9 NBA trade deadline is looming.
Before Golden State's disheartening 119-114 overtime loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday at Target Center, Myers explained the team's thought process on whether the Warriors are good enough to compete in the Western Conference as is.
"Yeah, that is the question," Myers said on 95.7 The Game's "Steiny & Guru" on Wednesday. "We got to look and see if there's something that makes sense to answer that question.
"Like any team, we got to see if there's someone out there who fills that spot, is there someone in the buyout? Is there someone in the trades? Is there someone who even supplants that and becomes the sixth guy, seventh guy? I don't know. That's our job in the next eight days."
As it stands, teams are still trying to figure out what the trade market will look like. One thing is for certain, however: Draft picks have to be included in some capacity.
Considering how valuable draft picks have become and the Warriors' propensity to draft diamonds in the rough, Myers might feel hesitant to trade away those picks.
Additionally, Golden State has very little financial flexibility to work with, thus making it hard to find contracts that match, specifically for an impact player they seek.
While Myers believes he needs to make a trade and would like to make one, there are various factors that make it difficult to pull one off, especially if the Warriors are fully healthy come playoff time.
"I think we stack up good enough, that's assuming health, but you always want to add to your margin of error," Myers continued. "It's not a margin of error that I'm entirely comfortable with as it stands.
"Our margin of error is not what it was. The record is not what it was. Comparing what I know about the team's we've had, I'd like to get a bigger margin of error. Can we do it? I don't know."
With the trade deadline just days away, the Warriors have been linked to Matisse Thybulle of the Philadelphia 76ers as a way to shore up their defensive issues.
Though a trade of Thybulle would be a splash, the Warriors ultimately are expected to "nibble" at the deadline, The Athletic's Anthony Slater reported on Jan. 19.

If the Warriors continue to lose winnable games like they have been in recent weeks, Myers might be forced to make a move to upgrade the team in some way.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Golden State will make any drastic moves, even with the deadline approaching.
