SNY’s Todd Zeile breaks down what the struggling New York Mets can do to get back on track and how they did so during the 2000 season.
Why would the Texans take on the albatross contract of David Johnson, a player seemingly on a downward spiral at this point in his career? The Texans quickly flipped their own second-round selection, 57th overall, to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for the often-traded Brandin Cooks. Cooks, the recipient of four 1,000-yard seasons from 2015-2018, was lauded as a similarly priced downgrade to Hopkins.
Talib reveals why he turned down Belichick's offer to rejoin Patriots originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston Aqib Talib has officially retired from the NFL, even though the New England Patriots were interested in bringing him back to Foxboro for the 2020 NFL season. Talib was acquired by the Patriots in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the 2012 season, and he played in New England through the 2013 campaign before signing with the Denver Broncos in free agency. The veteran cornerback played with the Los Angeles Rams over the last two seasons, and on Wednesday he announced his retirement.
LeBron James admits his determination to remain at the peak of his powers at 35 is even annoying his wife in the NBA's Orlando bubble. The Los Angeles Lakers' 112-102 Game 3 win over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday was the 162nd postseason victory James has been a part of, a number that takes him past Derek Fisher for the most playoff wins in NBA history. James was paramount to a victory that put the Lakers 2-1 up in the series as he had 36 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and had four blocks in one quarter.
That's right, it's finally time. It feels surreal, but here we are: fantasy football in 2020 is BACK, starting with Thursday's Texans-Chiefs game.
Sometime after Paul Azinger stopped winning and before he went on television to talk about those who were, he described pressure in the simplest terms. The FedEx Cup was a little of both for Dustin Johnson. The PGA Tour will have bigger problems than it realizes if players aren't moved by winning $15 million in a day.
Christian McCaffrey was a one-man wrecking crew and one-man league-winner in 2019, putting together a fantasy season for the ages. The question is, can he come close to repeating it, considering top-overall running back finishers rarely repeat in fantasy? Or will someone else topple him from the top?
It might seem humbling for Josh Rosen, to go from being the 10th overall pick in the draft to the practice squad. Rosen opted for the relative security of joining a solid staff where he can learn and develop, over joining a team which needed an extra for their 53-man roster. Byron had him for eight or nine games as a starter with a really bad football team.
Scott Zolak had better keep his arm warm. New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick may need an emergency quarterback. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the NFL has allowed teams to place veterans on the practice squad, which were spots originally reserved for younger players.
The Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. and basketball community gathered on Wednesday morning to remember legendary Georgetown basketball coach John Thompson Jr. at St. Augustine Church in Northwest D.C. with some of the biggest names in the sport flocking to the city to pay their respects. A number of Hoya all-stars were seen in the city Wednesday morning for Thompson's funeral, arriving at the church to honor the Hall-of-Fame coach who passed away at the end of August at the age of 78. Allen Iverson and Patrick Ewing, two former players under Thompson who were especially close to him, were the first spotted at the church.
The Rockets keep getting hit in the nuts. The NBA has now mostly taken notice. Houston guard Ben McLemore took the first hit from Thunder star Chris Paul: Dave McMenamin and Tim MacMahon of ESPN: Sources told ESPN that the Rockets were upset that Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Chris Paul's jab to Ben McLemore's groin area in overtime of Game 3 of their first round series — a play extremely similar to Davis' drive — was not reviewed by the league office.
Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio said Wednesday that “there's a chance” outside linebacker Von Miller will miss the entire 2020 NFL season after suffering an ankle injury at Tuesday's indoor practice. “It's too early to say for sure,” Fangio said. Miller will have several other doctors look at his injury before deciding if he'll undergo surgery.
Call it one last pass in San Diego for Philip Rivers. The longtime Chargers quarterback, who joined the Indianapolis Colts this offseason after 16 years with the Bolts, has sold his home in gated Santaluz for $3.675 million. Originally listed in April for $4.199 million, the Spanish-style home's price was cut to $3.699 million in June before catching an offer six weeks later.
Scottie Pippen's 11-season run with the Chicago Bulls in the late '80s and '90s, during which time the team racked up six NBA championships, may be long behind him, but this summer, fans could relive his glory days by watching the ESPN documentary The Last Dance. In the backyard, Pippen shows off his pool (complete with a water slide), his grill, the outdoor television which ensures he never misses a basketball game, and even a putting green, where he practices chipping. Of course, cold Chicago winters mean indoor activities are a must, and Pippen's house features an amenity-laden basement complete with a wine cellar, movie theater (his favorite flick is Die Hard), a small gym area, a sauna, an air hockey table and vintage Mrs. Pac-Man game, and to top it all off, an indoor basketball court.

And even if he unexpectedly is activated between now and Saturday, Kelly has to serve his five-game suspension for his actions the last time the teams faced each other. But Kelly still might be able to get under the Astros' skin, depending on where they stay and what route they take to Dodger Stadium. Local mural artist Jonas Never has immortalized the now-legendary pouty face Kelly used to mock Correa in a mural on the side of the Floyd's 99 Barbershop in Silver Lake, less than two miles from the ballpark.
Prediction: Jones — 21-of-38 for 200 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT … Slayton — 3 catches, 47 yards, 0 TDs Bills (-6.5) RB Devin Singletary vs Jets Total: o/u 39.5 A fifth-round pick in most fantasy drafts this summer, Singletary's early-season expectations should be closer to RB3 rather than the RB2 he was selected to be. On paper, the Bills have a dream opening schedule: The Jets twice, the Dolphins and the Raiders in four of the opening seven games. The reason for concern: Rookie Zack Moss securing opportunities near the goal line and in the passing game — two pillars of fantasy scoring.
Prior to DAZN's launch, boxing fans had gotten used to paying $75 or more to watch the biggest fights on pay-per-view in the U.S. DAZN's premise was that for roughly $100 a year, a fan would get to see all of the fights. It made sense in theory, though not in practice. At least in the U.S., DAZN is on the verge of irrelevance and took a major hit on Tuesday when its biggest star, Canelo Alvarez, filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit in federal court in California against it, Golden Boy Promotions and Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya.
START: Josh Jacobs, RB, Raiders: Jacobs is in line to put up big numbers against a Panthers defense that allowed the most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs last season. His fantasy owners can also count on him adding extra yardage after contact: Jacobs was sixth among running backs with 2.8 yards per carry after the first defender put pads on him. SIT: Leonard Fournette, RB, Buccaneers: This isn't to say he won't get a few touches in his Tampa Bay debut, but Ronald Jones will get the bulk of the snaps against a Saints defense that was sixth best in fantasy points per game allowed to opposing runners in 2019.
Alexander Zverev hit back at Martina Navratilova after criticism of his performance as he reached the US Open semi-finals. Navratilova, an 18-time grand slam singles champion, told Amazon Prime: "He will not be able to win against the top players playing the way he did today." Zverev was unhappy with the criticism, pointing to his record against Roger Federer (4-3 head-to-head) and Novak Djokovic, who he has beaten in two finals.
The Giants made a transaction on Tuesday that had undrafted WR Derrick Dillon terminated from the practice squad. Dillon just became a new father, so Judge wanted the LSU product to go spend time with his family during that time. The Giants worked it out so that Dillon was waived on Tuesday, which technically meant he was on the practice squad until 4 p.m. that day.
