Blue Streaks, Warriors, Eagles place players on All-Ohio girls basketball teams in D-I, II

Mar. 26—Two players each from Madison, Edgewood and Geneva earned All-Ohio girls basketball honors on Tuesday by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.

In Division I, junior Zoey Deligianis earned special mention honors and senior teammate Claire Wakim honorable mention, for the Blue Streaks.

Edgewood seniors Katie McCollister and McKenna Vencill were special mention and honorable mention choices, respectively, in D-II.

For the Eagles, seniors Delaney Marrison posted special mention honors, while teammate Brooke Richmond landed on the honorable mention team, also in D-II.

The Division III and IV All-Ohio teams were announced Monday. The boys basketball All-Ohio teams will be announced on Wednesday and Thursday.

Deligianis averaged 23.3 points, five rebounds, three assists and 3.6 steals per game this season.

"I couldn't have done it without my teammates and coaches," she said. "I couldn't thank coach [Heather] Reho enough for what she has done for this program.

"The culture of the program allowed us to have the success we had."

The good news for Madison is that Deligianis returns next season.

"Zoey has a high IQ of the game, and is one of the hardest workers I know," Reho said. "She was a huge piece to our success this year. She plays both sides of the ball at a high level."

Wakim played 15 games, and averaged 16 points, eight rebounds, two assists and 3.6 steals per contest.

"I'm super-happy that all the hard work I have put in and all the support from my teammates and coaches has paid off," she said. "I'm proud of everything my teammates and I have accomplished this year, and this is my motivation to keep improving my game."

Reho is glad for Wakim's success, and looks forward to seeing her play next season at Ohio Wesleyan.

"She is able to see the court very well and make the right pass," Reho said. "She is someone we relied on to rebound and get in the paint."

McCollister and Vencill were honored for the Warriors, who won the Chagrin Valley Conference Lake Division title and a Division II sectional championship.

"I want to thank my team and coach for all of the great memories during my senior year," said McCollister, who was also selected the 2023-24 Ashtabula County Player of the Year. "I appreciate the support of my athletic director [Steve Kray] and community over the last four years at Edgewood."

McCollister averaged 15 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 4.8 steals per game this season.

Vencill tossed in 10.1 points per game, to go with 4.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists and three steals per outing.

"I just feel honored to be mentioned with all the other great players in the state," she said. "I am very thankful and blessed."

Edgewood coach Randy Vencill said the honor is great for both players.

"Just to be mentioned with the best players in the state, they are both deserving and I'm proud of both of them and the careers they had at Edgewood," he said.

Marrison averaged 15.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.7 steals per game.

Richmond checked in at 13 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals per outing. She also made 55 3-point baskets.

"I am thankful to have received this honor for the second year in a row," Richmond said. "I truly couldn't have obtained this honor without my team, coaches and the support system. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for my teammates and myself."

Eagles coach Emily Vossers was proud of both players.

"Delaney has been a force for us on the court," Vossers said. "Delaney stepped in huge for us in every game, impacting the game in a variety of ways."

"Brooke was our leader all season. She has truly put in so much work to be the type of player she is today."

Geneva finished 18-5 overall in the 2023-24 season.
