Blue Jays Roundup: Wrestling competes in last regular-season matches

Feb. 2—BISMARCK, N.D. — The Jamestown High School wrestling team closed out its regular season on Friday.

The Jays competed against Dickinson and Bismarck Legacy in a WDA triangular.

Against Dickinson, the Blue Jays only picked up two wins and one forfeit to earn 15 team points compared to 57 earned by the Midgets. In the Blue Jays go-around with Legacy, they scored a few more points but not enough to catch the Sabers. Legacy defeated the Jays 52-19.

While the Blue Jays didn't get a team win, there were some individual victories.

In his first match of the night, Jack Schauer defeated Dickinson's Jake Glaser by a 10-4 decision.

Grady Anderson picked up his 39th win of the 2023-24 season, pinning Dickinson's TJ Meyer at the 0:57 mark of the first period. Anderson is ranked as the No. 1 wrestler at 152 pounds in the state.

Dickinson forfeited the 121-pound match adding six to the Blue Jays' score.

Anderson, Lucas Schlepuetz, Jerard Satterlee and Josh Dickerman were the JHS team members who picked up wins in their respective weight classes against Legacy. Anderson pinned Jack Mitchell at the 1:16 mark of his match. Dickerman also got a 6-point victory, pinning Hayden Stymeist with 0:42 seconds left on the clock.

Lucas Schlepuetz and Jerard Satterlee combined for seven more team points. Schlepuetz got three for his 4-3 win by decision against Jimmy Shar while Satterlee handily defeated Caden Eckroth by a 9-1 major.

Next up for the Jays' is the WDA Wrestling Tournament. The regional tournament is slated to be held at Minot State University on Feb. 10 beginning at 10 a.m.

Matt Stockert and the Blue Jay boys hockey team had a long trip back to Jamestown and a loss to Williston made it that much longer.

The Jays dropped to the Coyotes 5-3 to move to 8-10-0 overall and 7-9 in the West Region. Final stats were not available when the Jamestown Sun went to press.

Stockert and his crew will be back in action on Saturday at Wilson Arena taking on West Fargo at 4:30 p.m.
