Blue Jays Roundup: Track sees first competition of the year

Mar. 22—FARGO — Points were hard to come by for the Blue Jay boys track and field team on Friday.

Still — for head coach Ken Gardner, it was a good day.

The Blue Jays competed at their first official meet on Friday at the North Dakota State Indoor Meet. The Blue Jay boys placed 15th out of 17 competing teams. In total, Gardner watched his boys post 37 personal records.

Sam Anteau was the Jays' top finisher, placing sixth in the 3200 meters with a time of 9:57 — which would have qualified him for the 2024 State Meet had the meet been held outdoors.

"He ran a 49-second PR, so it was a great start to the season for Sam," Gardner said. "Whenever an athlete performs better in an event than they ever have, that is a successful day."

The team's other top-10 finish came in the 4x400-meter relay. Gradin Thorlakson, Brady Harty, Jesse Sagaser and Noah Lynch completed the 1600 meters in 3:41.56 to team place seventh.

The Blue Jay boys will be back in action on March 28 at the WDA Indoor Meet at the University of Mary.

Allysah Larson had a day for the girls placing fourth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.21 seconds — 0.18 seconds behind top finisher Paige Renschler of Fargo Shanley.

Larson then made her way over to the long jump pits where she finished with a third-place jump of 16 feet, 7 inches.

14 of 15 events were complete when the Jamestown Sun went to press. The girls placed 13th out of 17 teams. The squad will head to U Mary on Tuesday for the WDA Indoor Meet.
