Report: Blue Jays star prospect Bo Bichette has broken hand

One of the Toronto Blue Jays’ star prospects will be out of action indefinitely.

Shortstop Bo Bichette suffered a broken left hand after being hit by a pitch in Monday’s Triple-A Buffalo Bisons game, according to The Athletic’s Robert Murray and Ken Rosenthal. He will seek a second opinion on the diagnosis.

Bichette has been in the shadow of fellow Toronto prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for much of his minor-league career, but the 21-year-old has been an offensive machine since joining the organization. He has amassed an impressive .325/.382/.516 slash line across five minor-league levels and won MiLB’s Offensive Player of the Year award in 2017.

The Orlando native entered the 2019 season as Baseball America’s eighth-ranked prospect, and came in at No. 11 on MLB Pipeline’s list. He was hitting .250/.310/.404 with one home run, eight RBIs and three stolen bases in 14 games with Buffalo before the injury.
