Blue Jackets' Korpisalo makes 38 saves in Monsters' victory over Syracuse

Oct. 29—The Monsters scored the first three goals of the game on the way to a 4-2 victory Oct. 29 at Syracuse.

Blue Jackets goalie Joonas Korpisalo, on a conditioning assignment while recovering from a hip injury, stopped 38 of the 40 shots he faced. One of the goals was on a power play. The other was a 6-on-5 situation.

Cleveland (4-4) was playing the last of six straight road games. It went 2-4 in that stretch and is 3-5 for the season.

Marcus Bjork and Kirill Marchenko scored in the first period to put the Monsters up, 2-0. Marchenko's goal came on a power play, and it was his fifth tally of the season.

Carson Meyer scored his third goal of the year less than a minute into the second period to make it 3-0. After Syracuse scored its first goal, Brendan Gaunce found the back of the net to make it 4-1. Gaunce has four goals this season.

The Monsters return to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse for back-to-back games against Chicago beginning Nov. 4.
