Blue Devils play close match against rival Colquitt

Apr. 11—MOULTRIE — Colquitt County won a pair of soccer matches Tuesday, but Blue Devils head coach Bobby Earls saw continued progress with his team.

The Devils fell, 3-1, a much closer game than Colquitt's 6-0 win the first time they played this season.

"We played with passion and intensity," said Earls, "and really played up to our potential."

Jordan Lopez scored eight minutes into the opening half, giving Tift a 1-0 lead. The Packers tied it a few minutes later on a penalty kick.

Later in the half, Colquitt had a second penalty kick, but were denied this time on a huge save by Braylon Samuel. The Pack went up 2-1 before the break.

Earls said Lopez had a shot denied by the keeper in the 2nd half and Brock Harden was barely high over the crossbar.

Colquitt scored with a few minutes to go for the final score.

After the match, Earls said matches like these would prepare them in life, encouraging them to keep giving 100%.

The Lady Devils fell to a rapidly improving Colquitt squad, 2-0.

Tift teams will finish the season Friday at Crisp County.
