The White House Correspondents' Dinner is also known as Nerd Prom. The annual Washington D.C. event — which combines aspects of politics and Hollywood — even had a little sports flavor this year, thanks to a proud graduate of Stanford University (aka Nerd Nation). During President Obama's remarks at the gala Saturday night, the Commander-in-chief referenced Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman's infamous postgame interview with Erin Andrews following Seattle's 23-17 NFC championship game victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
"Sometimes I do feel disrespected by you reporters," said President Obama. "But that’s OK. Seattle Seahawk cornerback Richard Sherman is here tonight. And he gave me some great tips on how to handle it. (CNN Chief Washington Correspondent) Jake Tapper, don’t you ever talk about me like that! I’m the best President in the game! What do you think, Richard? Was that good? A little more feeling next time?"
Sherman shouted, "Project it!" from the audience, coaching the noted Chicago sports fan. All in all, the outspoken NFL star seemed to have a good time over the weekend (judging by a sampling of his Twitter feed).
Keep hope alive
Moving to soccer, Cristiano Ronaldo kept Real Madrid's La Liga title hopes alive with a brilliant backheel goal during stoppage time. The equalizer salvaged a point for the Spanish powerhouse in a 2-2 draw with Valencia.
The Truth will set you free
Finally in the NBA, Paul Pierce blocked Kyle Lowry in the final seconds of Game 7 to preserve a 104-103 victory for the Brooklyn Nets over the Toronto Raptors in their thrilling first-round series.
