Nick Swisher’s embarrassing night in Cleveland

Cleveland Indians slugger Nick Swisher is a pretty excitable kind of guy. He even has a section at Progressive Field named after his "Bro-ness". But the new father had a really embarrassing night near the shores of Lake Erie Monday against the Detroit Tigers.

First in the eighth inning of 2-all tie, Swisher squibbed a grounder down the third-base line that appeared to be foul. Instead of running it out, Swisher barely left the batter's box. Big mistake. Tigers catcher Brayan Pena let the ball roll back into fair territory, scooped it up and tagged Swisher out with the 2013 free agent acquisition's normal exuberance. All the Swish Dog could do was smile. But when the tenth inning came around, Swisher wasn't smiling anymore. With the score 4-2 Tigers, Indians outfielder Michael Brantley ripped a two-out basehit to right field that should have scored our guy from second base and make it a one-run game. One problem: Swisher slipped while rounding third and had to retreat to the bag, tail-between-legs. The normally upbeat outfielder-first baseman bowed his head after the tumble - likely from a combination of bruised body and ego. Mike Aviles followed by striking out to end the mini-rally and the game. Cleveland lost 4-2.

And you can call him Mr. July after Oklahoma City Thunder guard Reggie Jackson's nasty dunk on Moe Harkless of the Orlando Magic during NBA Summer League action.

Finally, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft made his first public comments in the wake of Aaron Hernandez's murder charge. Kraft said, "If this stuff is true, then I've been duped and our whole organization has been duped."
