His Twitter handle is @Shredderpunto. Yes, Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Nick Punto marches to the beat of his own drummer. He even showed up to AT&T Park as a fan during last year's NLCS to root for one of his former teams, the St. Louis Cardinals. So while Punto's headfirst slide into first base — on what appeared to be an obvious base hit to center field — against the Arizona Diamondbacks Monday night may have been odd, it wasn't surprising.

Punto's strange move came in the first inning of a game the Dodgers would eventually lose to the D-backs 2-1. He simply was hustling so hard down the first-base line, he didn't realize the ball skidded through the infield with ease. The veteran big leaguer laughed a little, dusted himself off and went about his business. The NL West leader's magic number to clinch the division is still four games.
