Erin Andrews and Curt Menefee's odd on-air exchange

We're more than a week past Christmas but that doesn't mean "A Christmas Story" references can't be made — even if they may be a little out of place for a football pregame show. Such was the case Sunday prior to the wild-card tilt between the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers at frigid Lambeau Field. NFL on Fox studio host Curt Menefee referenced the popular 1983 holiday film during an on-air exchange with sideline reporter Erin Andrews — and taken out of context, his introduction seemed a little odd:

"Randall Cobb is back and so too to this show is our own Erin Andrews who using your 'Christmas Story' reference, hopefully hasn't been licking the goal post in between. Your tongue working right now?" asked Menefee. "So far so good. But I anticipate sounding like Flick from 'A Christmas Story'," replied Andrews, ever the good sport.

Of course, the seemingly out-of-place question was a reference to the well-known scene where Scott Schwartz's character is dared to lick a frozen flag pole. Andrews wasn't having any of that. In fact, she was quite prepared for the below freezing conditions.

Clutch Kap

As for the game, Niners quarterback Colin Kaepernick made a pair of big plays down the stretch — first with his arm, then with his legs — as San Fran snuck out of Green Bay with a 23-20 victory.

Next stop: NFL

Finally, a pair of college football stars have declared for the NFL draft. Central Florida redshirt junior quarterback Blake Bortles will reportedly forgo his final year of eligibility. So too will Oregon junior running back De'Anthony Thomas.
