Edinson Volquez makes no-look snag on comebacker

Yahoo Sports Minute

It's a move that has become commonplace among pitchers when a ball is hit up the middle. But Edinson Volquez's no-look snag on a comebacker by Victor Martinez provided an uncommon outcome.

With runners on first and third and one out in the first inning of a scoreless game, the Pittsburgh Pirates starter induced the Detroit Tigers first baseman to hit a hard grounder back to him. But the momentum of Volquez's follow-through took him slightly off the mound. His only play was a desperate flick of his glove hand to try and come up with the ball. And that's exactly what Volquez did. What happened next was nearly as impressive. The right-hander had the wherewithal to square himself up and make a throw back to home to hang up Ian Kinsler on a fielder's choice. The Buccos went on to beat the Tigers 4-2.

Trick shot

Moving to college football, professional billiards player Loree Jon Jones used Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney as a prop on an Instagram video posted on the program's account.

Midseason form

Finally in soccer, high-priced teammates Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo teamed up on a brilliant cross in a UEFA Super Cup match against Sevilla. Real Madrid won 2-0.
