Whether you live in the UK or will be visiting this summer, if you love music, attending a great show can be the ultimate part of any holiday experience. Here is a look at the top 10 concerts in the United Kingdom during 2012 that should not be missed.
1. Madonna at Hyde Park in London
In one of the most high profile gigs of the summer, the Queen of Pop will perform at Hyde Park in London. This is considered to be one of the shows of the year to attend, and if you haven't seen Madonna in concert, it's an event everyone should have on their bucket list. Hyde Park sits in central London and is known for being one of the best concert venues to see live music.
The iconic artist will be rockin' here July 17, 2012, with the show kicking off at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are currently available but considered in high demand so you'll need to purchase as soon as possible. Prices start at £77.
2. The Wireless Festival at Hyde Park in London
Another great show to catch is The Wireless Festival, also at London's Hyde Park. It will take place over the weekend of July 6-8, 2012. This is a massive, open-air live music experience with international headliners that include superstar Rihanna, Grammy-nominated dance superstar deadmau5, "Super Bass" singer Nicki Minaj, and Grammy-nominated rapper Drake. 3. Pearl Jam at Manchester Arena
Pearl Jam puts on one of the most incredible shows you'll ever see. Fans travel the world to see them play live, and both visitors and residents to the UK will get an opportunity to watch them perform on June 20-21, 2012 in Manchester, about 200 miles north of London. Tickets start at £53.
4. Red Hot Chili Peppers
Frontman Anthony Kiedis and crew took a five-year hiatus and finally came back just last summer. They'll play the famous Knebworth Park in Stevanage, located less than an hour north of London, on Saturday, June 23 starting at 2 p.m. The venue is known worldwide for its rock concerts; this should be an amazing show to catch. Tickets are £90.
5. The Cult at Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle Upon Tyne
For an excellent alternative/indie rock concert, don't miss The Cult with The Mission and Killing Joke on September 11 at Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle Upon Tyne, in the north of England. Tickets start at just £40.50.
6. Blink 182
Two hours northwest of London in Birmingham, Blink 182 will play the NIA (National Indoor Arena) on June 7, 2012. If you know all the words to "What's My Age Again?" and "All the Small Things," you aren't going to miss this jam session. Tickets are £35.75.
7. Hard Rock Calling at Hyde Park
Another great show at Hyde Park this summer is Hard Rock Calling 2012. This three-day event will take place over July 13-15, and includes acts such as Seattle-bred Soundgarden, Bruce Springsteen and the legendary E Street Band and Paul Simon. Single day and weekend tickets are available starting at £55.75.
8. Download Festival
The Download Festival will be held in Derby, about 130 miles north of London in the East Midlands region of England, over the weekend of June 8-10. It's considered the ultimate Monsters of Rock concert and this year's show will include Metallica, Black Sabbath, NOFX, Rise Against, Dropkick Murphys, Tenacious D, and many others. Metallica will even perform their entire legendary Black album on Saturday, June 9. Day tickets start at £82.50 with weekend tickets starting at £165, or with five days of camping included from £200.
9. Rockness at Loch Ness
The Rockness at Loch Ness will be held in the beautiful Scottish Highlands at Clune Farm in Inverness, Scotland. For spectacular scenery and great music, this one can't be beat. The show will take place over three days from June 8-10 with acts that include Mumford & Sons, deadmau5 and Friendly Fires.
Single day tickets start at £64 with weekend passes including camping from £159.
10. Isle of Wight Festival at Seaclose Park
The Isle of Wight is an easy ferry ride off the southern coast of England, and just two hours from London. The Time Out festival includes some of the biggest names in rock, with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Band of Skulls, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band and many more performing over June 22-24. Adult tickets without camping are £160, tickets that include camping are £190.
