Santiago Giraldo's night was going about as well as you'd expect. The Colombian entered the match with two career victories in major tournaments, a mere 222 fewer than his opponent, five-time U.S. Open champion Roger Federer. Giraldo dropped the first set in 36 minutes. Then he opened the second set by hitting a ball so errantly that it broke the microphone of the chair umpire.
Maybe he wanted to stop hearing the score.
