Barcelona-Real Madrid rivalry extends to basketball with dueling trick shot videos

A Real Madrid player did something cool. And to Barcelona, that just couldn't stand.

Because, you know, a century of rivalry acts as the proxy war for the perpetual strife between the capital of Madrid and the want-away region Catalonia.

Recently making the rounds was video of Gareth Bale making three of five shots in an NBA halfcourt challenge, while sporting a white Miami Heat jersey, a profoundly uncool white headband and emitting several high-pitched whoops.

So, not to be outdone, Barcelona's backup right back Martin Montoya dropped his own shot through a hoop, from roughly the same distance, while wearing a purple T-shirt and a heart-rate monitor that looks like a bra, before casually strolling away. Except he did it … With. His. Foot.

This rivalry has simply gotten too hot, and these teams too good, for the soccer field. It now needs to be fought in some other sport, vertically, with higher goals.

The score will be kept in viral videos.

The ball is in Real Madrid's court.
