World Cup-predicting camel making run at legend Paul the Octopus

In just under a week, soccer fans the world over will find out who will take home the 2014 World Cup.

And with only three major games to go, one animal prognosticator is writing his success story: Shaheen, the camel.

Discovered by the Gulf News, the Dubai-based camel has been predicting the winners of the key matches right from the start of the tournament.

Despite rumors he was slaughtered (the internet is a cruel place), Shaheen is alive and well and still predicting matches.

SUCCESS RATE

Shaheen started off with a bang, hitting on his first four picks but then had a string of three straight misses. Of the 27 matches he has predicted so far, the camel has been correct 18 times. He was in top form during the round of 16, where he predicted seven of the eight winners correctly.

In total, Shaheen has a success rate of 67 percent, but 75 percent in the knockout round. To compare, Paul the Octopus had an 85 percent success rate overall and 80 percent in the knockout round. If Shaheen hits on his final three games, he would have a chance to equal Paul the Octopus' winning percentage in the knockout round.

Hosts Brazil face Germany in the first semifinal on Tuesday, and according to Shaheen, they should progress.

However, in two of Germany's previous clashes, Shaheen picked the opponents (France and Portugal) to win, so perhaps Brazil has something other than losing star player Neymar to worry about.
