West Ham suffered the heaviest loss of the FA Cup third round, getting thumped 5-0 by Championship side Nottingham Forest. It was such a horrifying vision that after Forest scored their third goal in the 71st minute, one young West Ham supporter burst into tears. And this was before the final two goals.
Since his sadness was broadcast around the world, football fans everywhere empathized with the boy. Everyone knows that feeling all too well. But in his tears, West Ham saw an opportunity to turn a match that marked a new low in an already miserable season into a bit of positive PR. And so they put out an open call on their official website to identify the child in the hopes that they can reward his passion with a seat in the director's box at an upcoming match. So at least when he has to watch the Hammers lose again, he'll be a bit more comfortable next time.
Sunday afternoon's defeat at Nottingham Forest was tough for all to take, but particularly for one tearful young man in the away end.
Everyone at West Ham United shares this young man's disappointment and are grateful for the large numbers of fans that made the trip to the City Ground.
To show the Club's appreciation for the travelling Claret and Blue army, the Board, manager and captain would like to offer this young fan and his family a chance to watch an upcoming fixture at the Boleyn Ground from the Directors' Box.
If this is you, or you know who this is, kindly contact us at email@example.com so that suitable arrangements can be made.
So if you are that boy, or if you can make yourself look somewhat like him, do drop the club a line. Surely they've only received a few thousand prank responses thus far and could do with a few more.
