Since Bayern Munich confirmed that Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski will join them next season, Dortmund fans have taken the news of losing one of their best players to their most dominant rival pretty well. At least, better than they did when a similar betrayal played out with Mario Gotze last year.
Since Bayern's Lewandowski announcement, a 17-year-old Dortmund fan did accuse the player of assault, but he eventually withdrew the claim. But now someone has made Lewandowski pay for his decision by stealing all four of the wheels off of his Porsche Cayenne GTS and putting it up on cinderblocks right outside his home in Dortmund.
It's unclear if the crime was committed by bitter Dortmund supporters or common thieves with no interest in football, but Lewandowski awoke Monday morning to find the car he left parked in front of his garage wouldn't be taking him to training. On Saturday, Lewandowski scored his first goal after going scoreless in his previous 475 minutes of play as Dortmund beat Werder Bremen 5-1. He finished the match with a brace.
According to Bild, a new set of winter tires for a Porsche Cayenne will cost Lewandowski about €2,500. The car itself was also damaged by the way the thieves propped it up. That's an inconvenience he couldn't done without, but at least he didn't have the whole car stolen from his driveway while he was inside the house letting it defrost, which is what happened to Paul Scholes last year.
