Piers Morgan decided to tweet his newfound loyalty to the U.S. men’s national team following Italy's 1-0 loss to Costa Rica, which guaranteed England’s elimination from the tournament.
I am now supporting the USA in this World Cup.— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) June 20, 2014
However, the Twitter universe (and most of all the U.S. fans) weren’t too pleased with Morgan’s sudden declaration:
Someone even decided to take things a little further, questioning Morgan’s motives for rooting for the American team:
Morgan earned the ire of many Americans thanks to his controversial CNN show, which aired for three years and ended last February.
Although the chances of the U.S. team delivering a good game against Portugal are higher now after their victory against Ghana, one will have to wait on Sunday's result to determine if Morgan’s allegiance is a committed one (judging by how quickly he ditched England, probably not).
