The second Manchester derby of the season was a cagey/boring/tense/entertaining/sloppy/pretty comfortable 1-0 win for Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. With both sides trying to avoid embarrassment with Maradona in the stands, there weren't too many defining and impressive moments in the match, except for the Vincent Kompany header just before halftime that would prove to be the only goal of the match.
The Man City captain rose above Chris Smalling and all others to head in a corner kick, but what makes the above image such a perfect definition of this match is Phil Jones' Quasimodo-like facial expression. That is pretty much how Man United played. They had no shots on goal. None. Nil. Zero. Zip.
And so, a match that was billed as "the biggest game in Premier League history" and a "title decider" has actually made it far less clear as to who will win the league this season. Both Manchester clubs sit atop the table with 83 points and though Man City has an edge with a considerable goal difference advantage, it has to play Newcastle next (followed by QPR) while Man United finishes with Swansea and Sunderland. So, yeah, contrary to popular belief, the season is not over yet.
But just to negate my own hyperbole, if there were only two images you need to see from this match, the other one would have to be Roberto Mancini giving Alex Ferguson yappy fingers while the two clashed on the touchline after Nigel De Jong was shown a yellow card for a challenge on Danny Welbeck in the second half. Enjoy...
