Marseille have lost an incredible 10 of their last 11 matches in all competitions (including both legs of their Champions League quarterfinal against Bayern Munich and their Coupe de France quarterfinal against third division side US Quevilly) -- most recently their 2-1 loss on Sunday to rivals PSG.
This run of terrible form has taken its toll on the club's fans and has only been made worse by the fact that PSG are even with Ligue 1 leaders Montpellier on points (though PSG have one more game played). So now one Marseille supporters group is urging the club to keep up their losing ways when they play Montpellier on Wednesday to try and keep PSG from winning the league title.
"Let's give Montpellier the best chance possible and stop PSG becoming champions this year," the South Winners 87 group said on their website (www.sw87.com) on Monday.
"Let's let Montpellier win, let's not forget the lessons of history!"
Marseille fans still wince at the memory of the 1999 title race when PSG's 3-2 defeat to Girondins Bordeaux in the last round of matches denied Marseille the championship.
Those statements were probably made out of pure frustration and with a bit of a tongue-in-cheek intent, but the way Marseille have been playing, they most likely won't have to "let" Montpellier win at all.
