Power outages during the first half of Leicester City's Boxing Day match against Reading prompted fans to use their mobile phones as an emergency light source. The unfortunately named King Power Stadium and the surrounding area were affected by the outage, but the match went ahead and the Leicester won 1-0.
From the Leicester Mercury:
A spokesman for Western Power Distribution said the stadium itself was not directly affected by the power cut, but did suffer interruptions in power as a result of the fault.
Despite fears the match would be called off, the game went ahead, with City claiming a 1-0 victory. It is understood an emergency power generator was used during the game.
While chanting "We're Leicester City and we'll play in the dark," fans throughout the stadium held up their mobile phones in an attempt to brighten up the match, making it look more like a rock concert during a power ballad. Surely this will give some penny-pinching club a terrible idea for a way to save money on the energy bill.
