Landon Donovan shows some humor about being left home in World Cup video game ad

Landon Donovan was understandably disappointed about being unceremoniously cut from the U.S.'s final World Cup squad for Brazil. But in the weeks since the decision and the intense coverage it brought, the country's all-time leading scorer has shown an admirable sense of humor about the situation.

In the ad above for EA Sports' 2014 World Cup game, Donovan gets out of bed at the 10:39, puts on his USA slippers, grabs his USA bathrobe off the top of the suitcase he had packed for Brazil, does a little dance past the newspaper on his coffee table asking if the U.S. will have enough firepower (without him). After sitting down to a cup of coffee and knocking a replica World Cup trophy off the table, he settles in to play the World Cup video game.

As he plays, it's revealed that he's won the World Cup with the United States and with himself in the team. This could very well be a double dig at manager Jurgen Klinsmann for excluding him from the team and then making headlines in the land of optimism for saying that the U.S. wouldn't lift the trophy in Brazil — a comment Donovan took issue with in his debut as an analyst for ESPN.

Donovan also did an ad for the LA Galaxy in which he is the only one left in their office, as everyone else is off watching the World Cup. He sits at a desk wearing his full U.S. kit and uses a computer with his infamous water fountain picture as the background while manning the phones.

As the face of the U.S. team for so long, Donovan has always received a lot of criticism throughout his career. But there aren't many players who would be as willing to laugh at themselves in a difficult time as he is right now.
