Landon Donovan forgets that he didn't play at the World Cup in new commercial

Days after announcing that he will retire at the end of this season, Landon Donovan stars in a new commercial with the NBA's James Harden in which he "forgets" that he was cut from the U.S.'s World Cup squad.

After Donovan claims that Brazil was "sick," Harden explains that he has "one of those short memories — like all the greats."

"They can't cut me, I'm the captain!" Donovan declares, convincingly, as the spot abruptly ends and we are left to assume that in Donovan's mind, Clint Dempsey does not exist. Maybe next he'll forget that he's retiring.

This is now the third ad in which Donovan has made fun of his exclusion from the 2014 World Cup, previously starring in spots for the LA Galaxy and EA Sports (in addition to his appearances as an analyst for ESPN during the tournament). Has any other player ever profited more from missing out on a World Cup than Landon Donovan?
