It's been two years since Chelsea refused to meet Joe Cole's wage demands, allowing him to move to Liverpool on a free transfer before going to Lille on loan last season, but that hasn't stopped him from being a recruiter for the Blues. After Cole's former teammate at Lille, Eden Hazard, passed his medical and completed and much anticipated £32-million move to Chelsea, the 21-year-old Belgian revealed Cole's influence.
"I spoke to Joe Cole and what he said above all was that Chelsea was the right club for me. As somebody who loves the club himself, he said he could really see me in the shirt, so when I see him next I'll tell him he was right."
Surely that entitles Cole to a commission for his promotional services, especially since he's currently employed by a different Premier League club.
Then again, maybe this is all part of some KGB-style spy game employed by Roman Abramovich.
