The vuvuzela requires little talent and produces an incredibly irritating noise, so it's rather apt that there is a girl band named after the maligned instrument.
The three aesthetically pleasing ladies in the video above are known singularly as Tarryn, Tamsyn and Samantha, but collectively as ‘La Vuvuzela'. They're one of South Africa's premier girl bands, who confusingly describe their sound as "Lady GaGa meets sexy pop". Their output raises an important question: is this kind of music more or less tolerable than the sound of several thousand plastic horns blowing simultaneously? I say slightly more tolerable, but only just.
Their debut single ‘Be Mine Tonight' was a number one hit in South Africa, so naturally they have capitalized on their success and produced a World Cup 2010 song. It's called ‘Play To Win', but in a triumph for poor scheduling, it doesn't appear to be out until July. If you can find a copy of it, let us know. Or don't. Whatever.
