Dirty TackleHouston Dynamo’s Colin Clark uses gay slur toward a ball boy
Angered by a Seattle ball boy who didn't hand him the ball exactly how he wanted before a seventh-minute throw-in against the Sounders on Friday night, Houston's Colin Clark called the kid a "f***ing f****t." The gay slur was picked up loud and clear by pitchside microphones for the nationally televised match (video here -- NSFW language, obviously), so everyone watching at home immediately knew what Clark had done.
After the match, Clark tried to do damage control for himself and posted an apology on Twitter. He said:
I'd like to offer a sincere apology to everyone who watched the game, especially the ball boy for whom I used awful language towards.
I didn't mean to disrespect anyone and am sorry for letting my emotions get the best of me. It's not who I am and it won't happen again.
Though Houston went on to lose the match 2-0, keep in mind that this happened when it was 0-0 in the seventh minute. What could the ball boy have possibly done in the first six minutes of the match to cause Clark's "emotions to get the the best of [him]" and go right for the slurs after such a benign incident? Poor excuse.
On Saturday, MLS announced that it has begun "examining possible disciplinary action."
"We are aware of the incident involving Houston Dynamo midfielder Colin Clark during the game in Seattle Friday night, and his public apology for it. [...] MLS is conducting a thorough review of the facts and examining possible disciplinary action."
