Going six straight matches without a win and dropping to fifth place in the Brasileiro has created a tense atmosphere at Flamengo. One member of the team tried to lighten the mood and poison the air by loudly passing gas as manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo spoke before a training session the day before Sunday's loss to Bahia.
Globo describes the scene:
...a distinctive noise was heard on the field. The firecracker provoked laughter from some players, but left Luxembourg annoyed.
This is a lack of respect! - [Luxemburgo] Fumed.
The coach said the discipline was unacceptable and demanded to know who was responsible. The players initially thought the coach was joking.
But, he wasn't. Luxemburgo then went back to his office and told the players to discuss the matter and figure out who did it. The investigation into the identity of the mystery farter was led by 33-year-old midfielder Renato, yet no one admitted to it and the case remains unsolved.
Globo blog Bola Nas Costas is running a poll to see who fans think the most likely culprit was. So far, the blame is falling on 19-year-old Negueba. At the very least, we know it wasn't Ronaldinho since he's off on international duty.
