DTotD: Romanian striker suffers gruesome leg break

Dirty Tackle

Botoșani drew 2-2 with Gaz Metan in the Romanian Liga I on Thursday afternoon, but the game was marred by a horrific injury.

Around five minutes after he had given the visitors a 1-0 lead, Gaz Metan striker Dan Roman went on another run towards goal. Just before he reached the penalty box, however, he was brought down with a clumsy lunge from Botoșani centre-back Ciprian Dinu.

Most players then proceeded to put their hands on their heads in disbelief as they saw Roman's right foot was pointing in a direction it was not supposed to. The referee initially gave Dinu a yellow card, but upon inspecting the damage, upgraded the punishment to a sending off.

Roman suffered a double fracture of the tibia and fibula and according to Romanian site Pro Sport, he will be out for between ten and twelve months.
