DTotD: Moussa Sissoko bloodies referee with accidental blow to the face

Dirty Tackle

The only person who lost in Newcastle's 1-1 draw against Southampton was referee Mike Jones. The official was talking to Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko as they stood over Southampton goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga. When Gazzaniga tried to push Sissoko's leg away, the French international tried to swipe the keeper's hand off him, but instead he ended up smacking Jones in the face.

Jones clutched his face and took a dramatic fall backwards — the type usually executed by the sport's most dedicated embellishers. When the ref got back up, he revealed that he wasn't just trying to convince himself to award himself a penalty. There was, in fact, a trickle of blood coming from his nose.

Sissoko wasn't punished for the accidental violence and Jones was able to continue with a bit of cotton up his nose.

This has been the Dirty Tackle of the Day: a chronicling of unfortunate events.
