DTotD: Midfielder Ferydoon Zandi suffers gruesome leg break during Qatari league match

Dirty Tackle

Warning: video contains fairly graphic injury

Al Ahli Doha scored a late equalizer to earn a 1-1 draw at Muaither in the Qatari Stars League on Saturday, but the match was completely overshadowed by a horrific injury in the 80th minute.

Al Ahli's Ferydoon Zandi appeared to be winding up to take a shot on the edge of the box when he was intercepted by an opponent with a challenge that you can hear at around the three-second mark in the clip above.

Play continues for a few seconds until it becomes apparent that the former Kaiserslautern midfielder has suffered a serious leg break. A close-up replay shows that he has completely snapped his tibia, in the stomach-churning manner of David Busst and Henrik Larsson.

Zandi underwent an operation on Sunday and is expected to be out for a minimum of six weeks.

This has been the Dirty Tackle of the Day: a chronicling of unfortunate events.
