Cardiff owner appears to boo after disappointing result against Sunderland

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has quickly become one of the most unpopular owners in the Premier League and appearing to boo his own team after a disappointing 2-2 draw against last-place Sunderland isn't helping his cause.

Tan first drew the ire of Cardiff supporters in 2012 when he changed the then second-division club's colors from blue to red and made the dragon in the crest more prominent than the bluebird in an effort to expand the Bluebirds' appeal in international markets. This prompted protests and rage that have only been strengthened by Tan's decision to sack popular manager Malky Mackay this week.

Counterbalancing all that is the fact that Tan saved the club from financial ruin and provided the investment necessary to help them win promotion to the Premier League for the first time. As well as Tan's claim that Mackay spent £50 million over the summer even though he was given a budget of £35 million (and those signings have failed to pan out so far). Mackay has also been leaking his discontent with Tan to the press. But why let pesky facts get in the way of all the piling on?

Anyway, after Cardiff built up a 2-0 lead in their first match since parting ways with Mackay, Sunderland came back to score twice in the final 10 minutes of the match. The unsettled fans booed the result and a TV camera caught Tan appearing to do the same before chuckling as he exited his executive suite. Of course, the immediate assumption was that he was booing his own players, but his laughter made it seem as if he could have been mocking the fans for booing. Or maybe he was shouting something else entirely. The only thing we can say for sure is that if any of us spent as much money as Tan has on a club that just gave up two late goals to last-place Sunderland and missed out what should have been a sure win, we would probably boo too.

Whatever the case may be, it adds to the firestorm around the only owner who doesn't mind looking ridiculous just so he can wear his club's shirt every matchday.
