Franz Beckenbauer may have pooh-poohed Die Mannschaft's chances of lifting the World Cup this summer ("Our team is weakened," he told Berlin paper Der Tagesspiegel, in light of the absence of its Matt Damon-alike captain), but that hasn't stopped the outspoken World Cup winner from making a buck or two from this year's tournament.
In the latest ad from a certain stripy German sportswear manufacturer, Beckenbauer appears as a patron of the "Star Wars" cantina, alongside Daft Punk, Snoop Dogg, the nervous-looking one from "Knocked Up" and monkey-faced duo Ian Brown and Noel Gallagher.
Taking a brief respite from recovery from his trend-setting pre-World Cup injury, Davey Becks also appears in the clip, and is first spotted having an enthralling chat with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Shortly after, he is approached by one of Jabba the Hut's minions, who expresses an interest in employing the England star (he even makes a hi-larious "Galaxy" pun!).
It's a tempting offer for Beckham, but if he really wanted to play for someone who is rotund and occasionally in trouble with the law, wouldn't he just sign for Spurs?
