Barcelona's youngsters faced Atletico Madrid in the final of the Reino de León tournament on Sunday, but since the Blaugrana youth are taught that endless passing is far superior to actually scoring goals, it finished 0-0 in normal time.
In the subsequent shootout, Barca's 14-year-old keeper Iñaki Peña was the star of the show. The precocious goalie faced nine penalties and saved six of them, including all four of the shots faced in sudden death. To top it off, Peña scored his side's final penalty and then saved from the opposing keeper to win Barcelona the championship. The final score was 4-3 after 18 penalties.
To be fair, Atleti's keeper also enjoyed a good shootout, saving three penalties and watching a further two go wide. But it's clear that the youth set-ups of both sides need an awful lot of practise from twelve yards if they can collectively manage to score just seven penalties from a possible 18.
