As soon as Arsenal bought Mesut Ozil for a club record fee on deadline day, people started taking Arsene Wenger seriously again. No more jokes about his refusal to spend money or his puffy coat or his endless struggle with zippers, Wenger was once again a man to be respected. And now that he's back in the big time and winning matches on the regular, he simply doesn't have time for silly things like making sure he has enough quality strikers and tying shoelaces.
So, for Arsenal's official team photo, Wenger spat in the face of fashion and sound judgment by wearing Velcro shoes. Because he is operating at next level efficiency and genius and he won't be held back by unreliable laces.
Wenger also wore his Velcro kicks when posing for photos upon Ozil's arrival at the club.
"Oh, you want to make fun of my Velcro shoes? Well I just signed Mesut Ozil. Your argument is invalid."
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is still wearing laces and his team has now lost three matches in a row. Checkmate Wenger.
