Before Barcelona won the 2009 Champions League final, part of their "Let's Win Everything Imaginable" tour that year, manager Pep Guardiola showed the team a video of his players cut between scenes from the movie Gladiator and set to a rousing Pavarotti soundtrack. The team then went out and beat Manchester United and the video was hailed as a work of genius.
Spain defender Alvaro Arbeloa apparently liked that idea so much (even though he was playing for Liverpool at the time and is now with Real Madrid) that he decided to provide his teammates with a motivational video of his own. Only, instead of creating a customized video like Guardiola, Arbeloa just pulled one off of YouTube.
And so, according to Sport.es and Spanish TV show Punta Pelota, Arbeloa shared the video above with his teammates ahead of their semifinal match against Germany, which they went on to win 1-0. I like to think that the clips from The Muppets and Newsies were the bits that really drove the team on to victory.
