Former San Diego Chargers and New England Patriots receiver Donald "Reche" Caldwell was arrested on Sunday for allegedly running an illegal gambling operation in Tampa with two other men.
Caldwell’s younger brother, Andre, is currently a receiver with the Denver Broncos. Denver will play against the San Diego Chargers in the AFC playoffs on Sunday.
According to TBO.com, Caldwell, 34, Bobby Eugene Richardson, 37, and Kenlun Dawson, 35, were arrested on charges of allegedly running an illegal gambling house and bookmaking. The men were released from jail after they each posted a $4,000 bond.
In addition, cash, two handguns and approximately one gram of MDMA (ecstasy) were seized during the search, according to TBO.com. Five other people were arrested on various charges, including illegal gambling, possession of a controlled substance and violation of probation.
Reche Caldwell was a standout receiver at the University of Florida and became a second-round pick by the San Diego Chargers in 2002. His best professional season occurred in 2006 with the Patriots when he had 760 receiving yards four touchdowns. Caldwell spent the 2007 season with the Washington Redskins before his career ended.
