Minnesota Wild center Mikko Koivu spent his summer working for the Finnish Army back in his homeland. Now he's back at work for the Minnesota Wild, but unfortunately, due to a leg injury he suffered on Dec. 14, he's been unable to play.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Wild have put their captain on injured reserve in order to open up a roster spot but may end up getting him back onto the ice for Thursday's game against the Edmonton Oilers.
The 28-year-old Koivu, who joined the Wild in 2005, has scored eight goals and notched 20 assists this season. Last year, he finished out the year with 17 goals and 45 assists.
