Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley scored eight touchdowns this year and had 767 receiving yards in his fourth season with the team, both career highs.
The word from the Green Bay Press Gazette is that the Packers would like to sign the 24-year-old to a long-term deal rather than stick the franchise tag on him.
"We've been speaking and they've made it clear they would like him to be back there, and Jermichael's made it clear he would like to be back there," his agent, Blake Baratz, said Thursday, according to the paper. "Now that the season's over there's a little more time to focus on the particulars."
Discussions did take place about a possible deal during the season, the Press Gazette reports, and there isn't a timetable on talks now.
