When the Los Angeles Clippers claimed veteran point guard Chauncey Billups off waivers from the New York Knicks just before the season got underway, it wasn't even clear if he was going to show up since Billups had just told Yahoo! Sports that he had wanted to become a free agent and could be a "disruptive force" if a team claimed him.
Now that Billups has torn his Achilles tendon and is likely out for the rest of the season, of course, the 35-year-old just wants to play basketball again.
"I will be back," Billups told Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski. "I'm not done. I'm not retiring. I will definitely be back. This has been the story of my career, coming back, fighting, scrapping and I will play again."
Billups was averaging 14.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and four assists per game in his 15th season in the league.
