At 6 p.m. EST. veteran point guard Chauncey Billups will become a free agent if no team tries to pick him up through waivers. According to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski and Marc J. Spears, Billups "warned teams that they would regret it if they claimed him off waivers" this weekend.
Sent packing by the New York Knicks in order to make room for Tyson Chandler on the payroll, Billups is now looking to join a contending team and sources tell Yahoo! Sports "to keep an eye on the Los Angeles Lakers or Miami Heat as possible destinations."
The 35-year-old six-time All-Star averaged 16.8 points, 5.4 assists, and 2.6 points per game last season for his hometown Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks. According to Wojnarowski and Spears, Billups is in the Mile High City working out until his next destination becomes known.
