The Portland Trail Blazers and small forward Nicolas Batum have till midnight Eastern time Wednesday night to work out a contract extension or he'll become a restricted free agent this summer.

It appears that negotiations could be going right up to the deadline. The Oregonian reports that the two sides "have been in contract extension talks for weeks" and that interim GM Chad Buchanan along with some members of his staff met with Batum's agent, Bouna Ndiaye, in the flesh on Monday and continued conversations on Tuesday.

One source to the paper said that there is "nothing pending" on Batum as of Tuesday night and there is no work on any possible statistics on the deal for the 23-year-old French native.

Batum is averaging 10.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and nearly 25 minutes per game this season.
