A popular assistant prep football coach in Texas is behind bars for allegedly filming teachers in a faculty bathroom and logging the indecent footage in carefully kept files, according to multiple media reports.
Kennedale (Texas) High assistant Jason Tomlinson, 29, a former standout at the school before starring as a wide receiver at the Naval Academy, allegedly secured a 3-by-1-inch camera underneath the sink of a faculty bathroom, capturing both male and female teachers exposing their buttocks and genitals. He then categorized the images by each teacher's name, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
“Each video had been categorized by teacher name and contained rating comments such as ‘fine’ or ‘good,’” according to an affidavit obtained by the paper. The footage reportedly featured seven teachers.
Tomlinson captured the Star-Telegram's Arlington-area Athlete of the Year honor as a Kennedale senior in 2003, the paper said. He lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track at the school and ultimately became "Navy's top receiver and one of the best athletes on the team" as a college senior. He led the Midshipmen in receiving from 2004-06, capturing the school's 2006 Napoleon McCallum Award.
In addition to serving as an assistant coach for the Kennedale football team that finished 7-5 and qualified for the postseason this past fall, Tomlinson taught science at the high school. A female teacher discovered the camera when it fell from a Velcro strip beneath the sink, according to the Star-Telegram, and police also discovered Velcro in a second school bathroom.
"I was surprised it was him," one science student told WFAA-TV, "because he's nice."
Police suspected Tomlinson after discovering he accidentally captured his own face on film, according to WFAA-TV. He reportedly never graduated from the Naval Academy. Tomlinson remained in jail Thursday two days after his arrest, awaiting a $100,000 bond, the Star-Telegram said.
